William McLaughlin is managing director at Sivers Photonics and responsible for growing the company in worldwide, B-to-B and consumer-driven, photonics markets. Billy came from advanced, display platform start-up, SmartKem, where he was COO. He previously held Senior Executive and Board-level roles at semiconductor industry giants Motorola, Global Foundries and Teledyne e2v, as well as critical roles within industry start-up Silecs.
Billy’s 25 years of experience include operations, engineering, quality, research and technology, and global applications expertise. He has worked in the UK, Finland, Germany, USA, Singapore and Japan. Billy studied Electronics and Electrical Engineering at Glasgow University. He is an accredited LSS Master Black Belt and a consultant in Quality Management Systems.
Chief Technology Officer
Dr Andrew McKee received a BSc (Hons) degree in Electronic Engineering and a Ph.D. from the University of Glasgow. His research was in the area of Quantum Well Intermixing (QWI) of InGaAsP MQW structures for Photonic Integrated Circuits. Andrew has extensive experience in all aspects of III-V optoelectronic device design and manufacture, gained with Agilent Technologies. As a founding member of CST Global, he is responsible at Sivers Photonics for the technical roadmap of the company, including developing new device designs and process technologies.
Michael Small has a background in Physics, having earned a Ph.D. in Theoretical Cosmology from Lancaster University in 2002. Following his qualification as an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) with KPMG in 2005, Michael moved into Industry as the Financial Accountant for the frozen pizza manufacturer Schwans Consumer Brands UK Ltd. He was promoted to the position of Financial Controller at Schwans before moving on to the role of Commercial Finance Manager at the drinks company C&C Group PLC. This was followed by four years as the Financial Controller of the Whisky and Gin Operations division of Bacardi Ltd, before joining Sivers Photonics in 2020.
VP of Operations
Paul has extensive operational and technical leadership experience, with over 15 years in semiconductors, photonics and opto-electronics industries, ranging from university spin-outs to established multi-national organisations such as NEC Semiconductors and Coherent Inc. Prior to joining Sivers, Paul was Manufacturing Director at Raytheon Systems Limited, with responsibility for multiple UK and Canadian manufacturing teams.
Graeme has held a variety of senior commercial roles within the technology sector. Prior to joining Sivers Photonics in 2020, he was Business Development Director at Novosound, a Scottish technology start-up developing thin-film, ultrasound sensors for non-destructive testing across oil & gas, aerospace, and engineering markets. Previously he spent 14 years at world renowned Scottish engineering firm Linn Products, operating in senior sales and business development roles worldwide. He holds a degree in Law from Glasgow Caledonian University and has an MBA from Strathclyde Business School.
Graeme has 25 years Human Resources experience gained in international leadership positions across multiple sectors including manufacturing, insurance, eyewear and resource recovery, with significant global organisations including Polaroid Inc, Polaroid Eyewear, Safilo and Cigna. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development having been a member since 1996 and holds an Honours Degree in Industrial Relations from the University of Strathclyde.
VP of Business Development, North America
With over 25 years of experience in the Optical Communications industry, most recently at Oclaro-Lumentum, a global leader in optical and photonic products, Susan has a proven track record of delivering results within the photonics and semiconductor industries. She has held Sales Director positions responsible for managing the largest hyperscale, module manufacturing and NEM customers globally. More recently, Susan has managed engagements in consumer markets for 3D sensing. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University, College of Business, majoring in Industrial Technology.
