Our photonic laser devices are enabling next-generation applications, including artificial intelligence, data-centres and ethernet.
We are a key strategic supplier to many Fortune 100 and Silicon Valley customers and collaborate with leading academic institutions and industry research centres worldwide.
From our UK-based foundry near Glasgow, Scotland, we provide end-to-end design, manufacture and qualification for early-phase prototypes and high-volume production, supporting up to 100mm wafer sizes on InP, GaAs, GaSb and GaN substrates.
Our team of over 80 staff are working across roles in R&D, wafer fabrication and backend assembly & test, as well as in various commercial roles.
Role
The Technical Sales Engineer is responsible for bringing technical expertise to the sales process, engaging with new and existing customers to create winning proposals and quotes for high value III-V semiconductor laser chip development projects, in applications across Optical Communications and Optical Sensing.
This is a key role in the sales team that involves working with a wide range of global customers from Fortune 100 to high growth startups, uncovering and understanding their chip design and production requirements to win sales for the Sivers Photonics business.
Collaborating with technical, commercial, operations, and production teams, the Technical Sales Engineer will work with customers to create technical and commercial proposals for internal and external audiences, compile quotations, and specify work packages.
Role Description
- Respond to customer enquiries and initiate cold engagements with identified target customer organisations across the world, working closely with the Sales Director
- Perform structured technical and commercial analysis of customer plans and product specifications, working with Operations and Engineering to determine the feasibility
- Compile internal proposals for management BID reviews, utilising Word Packages and Salesforce CRM to manage each opportunity through the sales BID process
- Create statements of work detailing the agreed technical and commercial aspects of projects for the customer, operations, and device engineering teams
- Assemble quotations that link technical procedures to payment milestones, working with finance and commercial teams to consider cost and profit implications
- Communication with customers through the duration of projects to purchase order
Responsibilities
- Deliver share of order book to enable quarterly and annual budgets to be met
- Work closely with customer technical teams utilising technical expertise to support them
- Work closely with Sivers’ engineering, operations, and production teams to ensure that the technical requirements of customers are understood and met in full
- Authoring of technical proposal content, for both internal and external consideration, maintaining extremely high levels of quality and detail
- Creation of quotes and work packages in conjunction with all stakeholders
- Prepare and give company introductions and technical presentations to customers
- Represent Sivers Photonics at conference and trade show events
- Reporting to Sales and Marketing Director, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available weekly/monthly/quarterly/annually, utilising Salesforce CRM.
- Follow company sign-off process ahead of submission back to customers
Skills and Experience
- PhD/MSc/Degree educated in a relevant photonics, material science, or electronic engineering discipline, as this role requires effective working with engineering teams.
- Prior experience or knowledge of semiconductor materials and devices, III-V lasers, or wafer fabrication processes would be very attractive but not essential.
- Demonstrable interest in photonic devices, sectors, applications, and technologies.
- Commercially minded, numerate, bringing strong technical foundation
- Excellent communication, written and presentation skills as this role will require frequent face-to-face engagement with customers and internal teams
- Can work to tight deadlines, with the ability to manage project-based sales opportunities
- Personable and assertive, able to lead meetings and engagements, good reasoning skills
- PowerPoint, Excel, and Word proficiency. MS Project/Salesforce experience welcomed
