William McLaughlin is managing director at Sivers Photonics and responsible for growing the company in worldwide, B-to-B and consumer-driven, photonics markets. Billy came from advanced, display platform start-up, SmartKem, where he was COO. He previously held Senior Executive and Board-level roles at semiconductor industry giants Motorola, Global Foundries and Teledyne e2v, as well as critical roles within industry start-up Silecs.
Billy’s 25 years of experience include operations, engineering, quality, research and technology, and global applications expertise. He has worked in the UK, Finland, Germany, USA, Singapore and Japan. Billy studied Electronics and Electrical Engineering at Glasgow University. He is an accredited LSS Master Black Belt and a consultant in Quality Management Systems.
Dr Andrew McKee received a BSc (Hons) degree in Electronic Engineering and a Ph.D. from the University of Glasgow, in 1996. His research was in the area of Quantum Well Intermixing (QWI) of InGaAsP MQW structures for Photonic Integrated Circuits. Andrew has extensive experience in all aspects of III-V optoelectronic device design and manufacture, gained with Agilent Technologies. As a founding member of CST Global, he is responsible at Sivers Photonics for the technical roadmap of the company, including developing new device designs and process technologies. Andrew will represent Sivers Photonics on the project board, as technical lead.
Michael Small has a background in Physics, having earned a Ph.D. in Theoretical Cosmology from Lancaster University in 2002. Following his qualification as an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) with KPMG in 2005, Michael moved into Industry as the Financial Accountant for the frozen pizza manufacturer Schwans Consumer Brands UK Ltd. He was promoted to the position of Financial Controller at Schwans before moving on to the role of Commercial Finance Manager at the drinks company C&C Group PLC. This was followed by four years as the Financial Controller of the Whisky and Gin Operations division of Bacardi Ltd, before joining Sivers Photonics in 2020.
