Sivers Photonics is the world’s most advanced supplier of customised compound semiconductor photonic devices, and a key strategic supplier to many Fortune 100 and Silicon Valley customers.

From our UK based 2,000m2 cleanroom facility near Glasgow, Scotland, we have the unique capability of integrated in-house design and manufacturing.

Our core strength is designing customised high-power DFB lasers for silicon photonic integration, including in-house product testing, qualification, and reliability capabilities, supporting product development through prototype proof of concept devices to volume production manufacturing.

Sivers Photonics is a founding member of an elite group of companies signed up to a multi-source agreement (MSA) to define a new, industry-standard for high wavelength count, O-band, DFB, continuous wave (CW) laser sources.

Sivers Photonics has advanced capabilities in design and manufacturing of active III-V photonic devices on InP, GaAs, GaSb and GaN substrates for devices.

Sivers Photonics is a founding member of an elite group of companies signed up to a multi-source agreement (MSA) to define a new, industry-standard for high wavelength count, O-band, DFB, continuous wave (CW) laser sources.

The MSA was initially set up to define a specification for the optical interface of the Continuous-Wave Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CW-WDM) laser sources.

CW lasers are critical to the integrated photonics devices used in next-generation artificial intelligence and data-centre applications and Sivers Photonics is helping to spearhead the standardisation, along with industry leaders and household names, Arista, Ayar Labs, imec, Intel, Lumentum, Luminous Computing, Quintessent, Sumitomo Electric, II-VI and MACOM.

The specification will be made available throughout the photonics industry, allowing the development of compatible products from multiple vendors, and is seen as a decisive step to enhance market growth, improve customer choice, and encourage competition.

The CW-WDM MSA will enable Sivers Photonics to provide next generation DFB lasers in a more standard format. This will eliminate the high levels of complex customization we often see today.”

Photonics History

2001:

CST Global is founded as a “spin out” from the University of Glasgow to commercialise Compound semiconductor technology. Investment Series A totals £3m with investors Intel, EDP and Global Edge.

2003:

SO 9001 Certification is achieved and the company moves to the West of Scotland Science Park.

2006:

CST Global acquires the SOA IP assets of Kamelian Amphotonix.

2009:

Investment Series B totals £3m with investors SCF, EDP, Global Edge and Maven Capital.

2010:

The investment enabled the acquisition of the ‘Intense’ wafer fab, including taking over its Manufacturing facility at Hamilton International Technology Park in Blantyre, Glasgow, Scotland, where the company is based today.

2016:

A production landmark is achieved of shipping 1m DFB lasers per month.

2017:

CST Global is acquired by Sivers IMA Holding AB. The acquisition came with a £3.5m investment into equipment, manufacturing and new product development processes.

2018:

Sivers IMA Holding AB is quoted on the Nasdaq First North stock exchange (Stockholm).

2019:

William McLaughlin joins as MD. The recognised industry heavy weight brings Executive and Board-level experience from his time semiconductor industry giants Motorola and Global Foundries.
